2021
After the retirement of Speedway historian Donald Davidson, the traditional radio program The Talk of Gasoline Alley came to a conclusion. For 2021, a new program took its place. Beyond The Bricks, starring Jake Query and Mike Thomsen. It aired weeknights during the month of May on WFNI 107.5 FM / 1070 AM “The Fan” from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. (EDT). It immediately followed Trackside with Curt Cavin & Kevin Lee, which aired from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (EDT). On nights that conflicted with Pacers basketball game coverage, both programs aired online/podcast only.
The “Beyond the Bricks” title had been used for a special podcast series in 2012–2013, but it is not necessarily considered a direct precursor to this program.
This would be the final month of May in which Indy-related programing aired on the 1070-AM frequency. After decades of use, the AM tower was shut down permanently on August 3, 2021. From that point on, the sow would only be heard on WFNI’s FM frequency. In a similar fashion to The Talk of Gasoline Alley, one week of shows aired in August during Brickyard week.
